Anthony Stokes moves to Sunderland

By Soccer Blog | Jan 10, 2007

Arsenal’s Irish U-21 striker Anthony Stokes has moved to Championship side Sunderland. The fee is estimated to be 2 million pounds.

Stokes was on loan at SPL side Falkirk till the end of December and notched up an impressive tally of 16 goals in 18 games for the club. He was linked with Celtic and Charlton too, but chose to go to Sunderland.  Stokes has trained with Sunderland before in the summer of 2006, but a loan move didn’t go ahead because of Sunderland’s bench strength. Stokes was named SPL young player of the month twice.

I suppose playing under Keano would be one reason the lad joined the Cats. Lets hope he takes Sunderland to the Premiership next season.
