Joey Barton content to stay at COMS

By Soccer Blog | Jan 17, 2007

Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton has said that he is quite happy to stay at the City of Manchester Stadium. Barton, who has been the subject of interest of many Premiership clubs, had a bid from Everton rejected last week.

Barton has a release clause of 5 and a half million pounds, but the midfielder has stated that he does not want to leave the club. He has given a good account for himself and is one of City’s top goalscorers and is line for an England call up.

I thought City could use the cash from Barton. Plus he is a boyhood Everton fan and would have been tempted to move to Goodison Park. I do not think they have much cash to spend and the only notable player they have sold in the winter is Ben Thatcher- for 500K .  Barton committing himself would have been the icing on the cake after getting past Sheffield Wednesday in the cup yesterday.
