Blackburn to sign Lee Dong Gook

By Soccer Blog | Jan 22, 2007

Blackburn are set to sign South Korean forward Lee Dong Gook. The striker, who currently plays for the Pohang Steelers in his native Korea, has agreed to personal terms and is awaiting a work permit.

Lee played the 1998 World Cup, but was omitted by Guus Hiddink from the squad which reached the semifinals in 2002. He missed the 2006 World Cup due to a serious knee injury. He has also had an unsuccessful stint with Werder Bremen.

His nickname is the ” Lion King”. Fans have also called him “Lazy Genius” for his unfulfilled potential. Success in England will ensure that the striker can erase the memories of his unsuccesful stint in the Bundesliga.

Lee will have competition for a first team spot, with Yakubu, Euell, Viduka, and Christie also in the fray.
