West Ham sign Lucas Neill from Blackburn

By Soccer Blog | Jan 23, 2007

West Ham have confirmed the signing of Australian defender Lucas Neill from Blackburn for a fee reported to near the one and a half million pound mark.

Neill, who joined Rovers from Milwall in the 01-02 season, rejected 5 time European winners Liverpool in favour of Upton Park. Many may feel that the decision was wrong, but Neill said that West Ham wanted him more whereas Liverpool just made him a ” take it or leave it” offer.

I wonder how Rafa will react to that :D . Kinda happens with the bigger clubs, I suppose.

Neill becomes the Hammers’ latest signing in their bid to escape relegation from the top flight. He is set to earn a 60K pounds a week wage, twice of what he was offered by Liverpool. But Neill has said that his decision was not influenced by the wage.

Hughes has signed Stephen Warnock as a replacement for the Australian who conceded the penalty which saw the Socceroos kicked out of the World Cup.
