Italian club Parma A.C. have appoint former Valencia and Chelsea head Claudio Ranieri as their new manager.

Parma sacked Stefano Pioli after a 3-0 loss to the Gialarossi on Sunday in the Serie A. The club currently are second from bottom, just 3 points ahead of bottom placed Ascoli.

This is Ranieri’s first job in football management since he left Valencia in February 2005. He returns to Italy after a gap of close to 10 years, having last coached an Italian club in the form of Fiorentina in 1997.

Parma, whose ownership changed hands from Enrico Bondi to Tommaso Ghirardi recently, will be hoping that Ranieri can lift them out of the relegation mess that they currently find themselves in.

The Gialloblu, who claimed a spot in the UEFA cup this season after the court verdict of the match fixing scandal meet Braga in the same competition on Thursday.

Pioli had joined his native club from Modena in 2006. He also played for them in the early 1980’s.
