FA Cup fifth round results

Arsenal 0-0 Blackburn

Brad Friedel’s late double save ensures that Mark Hughes’ side earn a replay at Ewood Park.

Chelsea 4-0 Norwich City ( Shaun Wright Philips, Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Andrey Shevchenko)

Norwich played well in the first half, and Wright Philips, making a rare start, gave Chelsea the lead. Drogba’s goal ended any hopes that the Canaries had harboured, and the two goals which went in right in the end made the scoreline look more flattering for Chelsea than it actually was.

Manchester United 1-1 Reading

A battle between two teams who have had some interesting games between them this season, and a late Brynjar Gunnarsson goal earns Reading a replay against the Premiership leaders. United probably deserved to win, but didn’t convert their chances- especially Park Ji Sung and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Middlesbrough 2-2 West Bromwich Albion ( Julio Arca, Yakubu/ Diomansy Kamara, Kevin Philips)

The third draw of the evening saw Curtis Davies get sent off late in the game, and the midweek clash against Bristol City saw Boro enter the game with less gas than they normally would have.

Plymouth 2-0 Derby County( Kevin Gallen, Scott Sinclair)

Gallen scored from the spot and missed another one from the same distance. Wonder goal boy Scott Sinclair’s late header sealed the match and ended the Rams’ hopes of progressing into the next round.

Watford 1-0 Ipswich Town ( Damien Francis)

Fulham 0-4 Tottenham ( Robbie Keane *2, Dimitar Berbatov *2)

The London derby turned out to be quite one sided, and in the end, Martin Jol would have felt elated at the way his side tore apart Chris Coleman’s men.

Preston 1-3 Manchester City ( David Nugent/ Michael Ball, Matthew Hill ( OG), Stephen Ireland)

Preston took a shock lead through David Nugent in the 8th minute when the U-21 striker tapped in after Nicky Weaver had palmed Michael Ricketts’ header. Michael Ball equalised for City, and the former PSV fullback’s throw in was responsible for causing mayhem in the Preston box in the 84th minute. Samaras’ shot took a wicked deflection off Hill and City were ahead. A Weaver- Samaras- Corradi- move saw Stephen Ireland score a volley, something which the lad isn’t quite known for.
