Sylvain Distin leaves Manchester City

By Soccer Blog | May 22, 2007

Manchester City defender Sylvain Distin has chosen not to extend his five year stay at the club. Distin has apparently quoted as saying that the need for a fresh challenge is the reason for his departure from the City of Manchester Stadium.

Distin was one of City’s better players last season, and formed a decent pairing with skipper Richard Dunne in the centre of City’s defence. The French defender is expected to join Portsmouth, who were interested in securing his signature earlier too.

As a replacement for Distin, City are rumoured to be trying to sign Sami Hyppia, but Newcastle and Bolton are also reported to be interested in securing the services of the Finnish centreback.
