This isn’t a review, but a list of the major facts. Also check how other English managers did in their first game ( at the bottom of this post).

How did Steve McClaren do in his first game as England manager ?

England 4-0 Greece ( John Terry, Frank Lampard, Peter Crouch *2)

How did Sven Goran Eriksson, currently Manchester City boss, fare in his first game in charge of the Three Lions ?

England 3-0 Spain ( Nick Barmby, Emile Heskey, Ugo Ehiogu)

How did King Kevin do ?

England 3-1 Poland ( Paul Scholes *3, Jerzy Brzeczek)

How did Glenn Hoddle do ?

China 0-3 England ( Nick Barmby*2, Paul Gascoigne)

My source for this being Hoddle’s first game in charge came from the BBC article when England beat Spain 3-1 in Sven’s reign.

That is about how far I went. If anybody went to Venables, Graham Taylor and co. let me know :)

I believe that Capello’s methods will instill a belief and confidence in the players that will rub off on them and produce a trophy winning team.
