Melbourne Victory to play Juventus in friendly

By Soccer Blog | Apr 20, 2008

Date : May 30

Venue : Telstra Dome, Melbourne, Australia

Fixture : Melbourne Victory vs Juventus.

It is a game that has Victory officials licking their lips in anticipation, with the A- League side rumoured to get around 40% of the gate receipts. Apparently, the Newcastle Jets also made an attempt to bring Juventus Down Under for a friendly, but failed.

While several Juventus players like Buffon, Iaquinta and Del Piero may not make the trip because of national team commitments, one can be sure of seeing players like Pavel Nedved and Mohammed Sissoko in action.

Victory are due to travel to Japan to meet Gamba Osaka in an Asian Champions League fixture on Wednesday, having lost 3-4 to them a fortnight ago.

Juventus should win the game comfortably, but the Italian giants coming down is good news for the sport of soccer in Australia.

Melbourne has a large Italian population living in suburbs like Brunswick and Carlton.

Getting the Telstra Dome to be packed should not be a difficulty, especially with no AFL games being played that evening.
