Derby County sign Nathan Ellington and Jordan Stewart

By Soccer Blog | May 30, 2008

Recently relegated Derby County have signed Nathan Ellington and Jordan Stewart from Watford. Ellington is on loan for one year, and will make a full switch on a free transfer next summer. Stewart, a former Leicester player has arrived at Pride Park on a free as Paul Jewell tries to rebuild the Rams in their quest to return to the Premiership next season.

Ellington has worked with Jewell in the past, and scored 24 goals in the 2004-05 Championship season to help Wigan Athletic reach the Premiership. The former Bristol Rovers forward’s time at Vicarage Road was certainly not been the most successful of his career, scoring only four goals in 21 starts for the club that broke their record transfer fee to sign him. Watford have received a loan fee for him- rumoured to be somewhere around 2 and a half million pounds.

Stewart may not be the greatest of signings, but with nothing being paid for him, Derby fans aren’t complaining. He has signed a three year contract.

Robert Earnshaw has left Derby for Nottingham Forest, and Doncaster Rovers medio Paul Green has been brought in on a free.

Can Jewell get the best out of the Duke again ?

We’ll have to wait and watch
