Euro 2000 quiz

Here is a quiz on the European Championships held in Belgium and Netherlands in 2000- the first Euro to be co hosted. The next Euro to be co hosted, as you might be knowing, is this summer’s event in Austria and Switzerland.

Turn the clock back by eight years, and attempt to answer these questions. Answers given by me as a comment in the end.

1.) Name the official mascot of the event.

2.) There was just one player in the English squad who did not play for an English club. Give me the player, as well as the club he represented at that time.

3.) Two teams out of the 16 that participated chose players plying their trade for clubs in their one country only- i.e all twenty two players were from clubs in that country. Give me the names of both the teams.

4.) Not considering the two teams mentioned above, there was atleast one player from an English club in every team barring two. One was Slovenia. Give me the other.

5.) Portugal went through Group A with three wins out of three. Who scored a hat trick in their 3-0 group demolition of Germany, a match which would also be Lotthar Matthaeus’ last international appearance for the Germans.

6.) Who scored the decisive penalty for Romania that sent England out of Euro 2000 ?

7.) The Netherlands pumped in six goals against X to record the biggest win in the tournament, with Patrick Kluivert bagging a hat trick. Give me X.
