Yorke signs contract extension

By Soccer Blog | Jul 2, 2008

Trinidad and Tobago veteran Dwight Yorke has signed a one year contract extension at Sunderland, thus putting an end to speculation that he would leave the Stadium of Light for other clubs. Sydney FC, the A-League club from where he moved to the Black Cats for £200,000 in August 2006, were reportedly interested in re signing him.

The former Manchester United striker has been used as a holding midfielder by manager Roy Keane, and helped Sunderland stay up last season. Yorke was Keane’s first new signing and even at the age of 36, wields considerable influence in the Sunderland dressing room

Yorke wont be getting many starts next season for sure. Still, he might take a coaching job at Sunderland.
