Harry Kewell completes Galatasaray move

After five injury filled seasons at Liverpool, Australian winger Harry Kewell has left the Premiership and moved to Turkish club Galatasaray. Kewell has signed a two year contract with the Turkish giants after being released on a free transfer by the Reds. Roma, Spartak Moscow and Portsmouth were also reportedly chasing his signature.

Kewell moved to Liverpool from Leeds in 2003 for £5m. His contract was due to expire at the end of the 2003/04 season, and Leeds, afraid of losing him on a free, were forced to let him go for a low price.

At Liverpool, Kewell reportedly earned £60,000 a week.

Kewell, 29, will wear the No.19 shirt at Galatasaray, and becomes the Turkish club’s third signing of the summer after Ferdi Elmas and Yasir Yildiz. Some fans will remember that he got sent off playing for Leeds against Galatasaray in the 2000 UEFA Cup semifinal.

Galatasaray are also reportedly chasing Kewell’s Australian colleague Lucas Neill.

Harry Kewell was a big disappointment IMO.

He was too slow on the ball and lost his crossing prowess in recent years.

Perhaps, he might recreate his magic for Galatasaray.
