Chelsea 5-0 AC Milan – Russian Railways Cup 2008

By Soccer Blog | Aug 4, 2008

Carlo Ancelotti will not be a happy man. Neither will Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani after the Rossoneri were thrashed 5-0 by Chelsea in the Russian Railways Cup. The game was an effective third place playoff after Chelsea and Milan had lost to Lokomotiv Moscow and Sevilla respectively.

Nicolas Anelka scored four goals and Frank Lampard the other as Chelsea wiped away memories of their penalty heart ache against Lokomotiv Moscow.

Zejlko Kalac had a horror day in goal for the Italians, who were uncharacteristically poor at the back and let in three goals in the first fifteen minutes.

Milan were beaten by Sevilla thanks to an own goal from Gennaro Gattuso in their previous game.

Chelsea lost to Lokomotiv 4-5 on spot kicks after Ruslan Kambolov had cancelled out Michael Essien’s 27th minute opener. Shevchenko and Wayne Bridge failed to convert from the spot.

Sevilla won the Railways Cup after beating Lokomotiv 3-0 in the final. Christian Romaric, Aruna Kone and Ernesto Chevanton were the scorers for the Spanish side.
