Croatia fined £15000 pounds for Heskey racial abuse

By Soccer Blog | Sep 26, 2008

The Croatian FA has been fined 3000 CHF ( about £15000) for the racial abuse directed towards former Liverpool forward Emile Heskey in the home side’s World Cup qualifier against England in Zagreb. England won the game 4-1 thanks to a Theo Walcott hat trick.

The amount is not very significant from the English point of view when you look at the numbers involved. As the Sun points out, there were about 32,500 Croatian fans at the Makismir stadium that night. That makes the fine less than 50p per Croatian fan.

Croatia were also fined for the racist behaviour of their fans in the Euro 2008 quarterfinal against Turkey- approximately 12,500 euros.
