By Soccer Blog | Sep 27, 2008

Defending champions Standard de Liege won their crucial top of the table clash against RSC Anderlecht 2-1 at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne. The result sees Liege go three points ahead of Ariel Jacobs’ side and boosts their confidence ahead of their UEFA Cup tie against Everton next week.

Substitute Alexsandr Yakovenko gave Anderlecht the lead in the 56th minute, but Axel Witsel equalised in the 64th minute. Milan Jovanovic then scored a late winner to give Liege their fifth win in six league games.

For Standard, Jovanovic and Benjamin Nicaise got yellow cards, while Anderlecht had only one offender- Jonathan Legear, the man who Yakovenko replaced.
