Freddie Ljungberg joins Seattle Sounders

By Soccer Blog | Oct 29, 2008

Those who watched the Premiership a few years ago could find some similarities between Sweden’s Freddie Ljungberg and England’s David Beckham. Both have short hair, play in midfield, and have captained their national sides. Both have been male underwear models- Beckham has posed for Emporio Armani while Ljungberg has modelled for Calvin Klein. And now, the Swedish winger has followed Beckham to America by signing for expansion team Seattle Sounders.

Ljungberg will reportedly get around $2.5m/year in base salary, and was unveiled as the club’s designated player for next season. Ljungberg recently had his contract terminated by West Ham, after spending many injury hit months at Upton Park. Fans in England will primarily remember him for the decade odd period he spent at West Ham’s city rivals Arsenal.

Sebastien Le Toux, Sana Nyassi and Kasey Keller are the other three confirmed players on Seattle’s roster.
