Werder Bremen scored five goals for the third time in the Bundesliga this season when they crushed Hertha Berlin BSC 5-1 at the Weser Stadion on Saturday. Claudio Pizarro and Diego Ribas da Cunha both marked their return from injury with three goals together as Bremen won for the first time in seven games in all competitions. Bremen’s last win was the 5-4 thriller against Hoffenheim after which they lost to Stuttgart and Leverkusen and drew four other games, including two European clashes against Inter and Panathinaikos.

Gojko Kacar’s own goal gave Bremen the lead in the fourteenth minute, and strikes from Diego and Markus Rosenborg helped them to a 3-0 lead at half time. Peruvian Claudio Pizarro added a fourth on the hour mark before Cicero Santos pulled one back for the visitors in the 68th minute. Pizarro completed the rout seven minutes later as Bremen ran out 5-1 winners.

Bremen, who were five points behind their opponents in the Bundesliga table, are now in eighth place with sixteen points after Saturday’s round of games. Their next game is at home against Panathinaikos ( November 4)
