Bayern Munich 2-1 TSG Hoffenheim

By Soccer Blog | Dec 6, 2008

Luca Toni scored for the sixth time in a row as Bayern Munich beat TSG Hoffenheim 2-1 on Friday evening in a top of the table Bundesliga clash. Toni’s goal came right at the end to break Hoffenheim hearts, but Ralf Rangnick’s side still lead the Bundesliga on goal difference. Bayern and Hoffenheim now have the same number of points- 34 each.

Vedad Ibisevic scored his 18th goal of the season to give Hoffenheim the lead in the 49th minute, shooting one right footed from the centre of the box into the bottom left corner. The Allianz Arena was stunned, but Bayern recovered eleven minutes later to equalise through left back Philipp Lahm. Toni himself missed a great chance to put Bayern ahead in the 68th minute, with his header going wide, and Bayern keeper Michael Rensing pulled off a great save to deny Sejad Salihovic three minutes from time.

Hoffenheim coach Ralf Rangnick said his side was ” gutted ” to lose in the manner they did, while a visibly relieved Jurgen Klinsmann said that he was ”boiling over with emotion” after the win.

Klinsmann also paid rich tribute to Hoffenheim, acknowledging that they were the best team to come to the Allianz Arena in the Bundesliga this season.

The match was telecast to over 168 countries, and did prove to be a worthy exhibition of German football.

Can Hoffenheim not lose focus and push Bayern all the way in the league ? Keep track of the Bundesliga to find out.
