Fresh news- Gekas signs for Portsmouth

German club Bayer Leverkusen have said that Greek striker Theofanis Gekas can leave the Bay Arena if he finds a new club. Gekas, 28, was signed by Leverkusen on a four year contract after an amazing 2006-07 loan season with Bochum, when he ended up as the Bundesliga’s top scorer.

Unfortunately for the former Larissa and Panathinaikos forward, he found opportunities limited for him under both Michael Skibbe and Bruno Labbadia. The presence of Patrick Helmes and Steffan Kiessling has also not helped his cause for a place in the starting eleven.

This is what Leverkusen’s business manager Wolfgang Holzhaeuser said,

We are not actively seeking to make him go but we know that he would like to leave. We’ll help him if we get any offers

Gekas has scored two times in seventeen appearances for Leverkusen this season.
