Kenwyne Jones signs new Sunderland contract

kenwyne-jonesSunderland striker Kenwyne Jones has pledged his long term future to the Black Cats by signing a new four and a half year contract.

Jones, 24, was recently linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, with the North London club reportedly placing an £15m+ bid for him. Jones joined Sunderland in August 2007 for £6m. The Trinidad and Tobago forward was former manager Roy Keane’s third signing at the Stadium of Light after Ian Harte and Danny Higginbotham.

Jones is tall and athletic, and many in the football world say he is similar to Didier Drogba. His partnership with Djibril Cisse seems to be gaining in strength at Wearside.

Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia said, “I’m absolutely delighted that Kenwyne has committed to the club for the long-term. ”

Jones himself said that the club’s ambition had persuaded him to stay.

I know the direction Sunderland want to head in and they’ve made me a part of that.
