Final score : Hamburg 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen ( Marcell Jansen 11′, 66′/ Patrick Helmes 29′)

German defender Marcell Jansen scored a brace in a league game for the first team in his career as Martin Jol’s Hamburg beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1. Hamburg, who were third going into Sunday’s game, now lead TSG Hoffenheim by two points. Hertha are third on goal difference with 40, while defending champions Bayern Munich are fourth with 38.

The two goals were Jansen’s first and second of the season for Hamburg, who also had Jerome Boateng sent off in the 86th minute for a second bookable offence.

Hamburg’s next game is a second leg UEFA Cup tie against NEC. Martin Jol’s men lead 3-0 from the first leg.

    Jansen actually came through at a very important point in the game. Especially being he hasn’t scored a whole lot at all. Spurs deserved to win this game!
