FA Respect Campaign- Ray Winstone Video

By Soccer Blog | Mar 25, 2009

Hollywood toughie Ray Winstone has just pledged his support to the FA Respect Campaign.

How many times have we seen parents who try to fulfill their football dreams through their kids abuse the referee for no fault of his at all? It is an unhealthy trend, and takes all the fun out of playing football. The beautiful game then becomes the ugly game.

The Respect Campaign aims to

ALLOW PEOPLE TO PLAY, OFFICIATE, AND WATCH FOOTBALL without
being ABUSED, MOCKED, INSULTED, JEERED, PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED,
UNNECESSARILY CRITICISED, PUSHED TOO HARD, DRIVEN TO TEARS
OR LAUGHED AT FOR TRYING

Establishing basic guidelines for acceptable behaviour to guide football players, parents, supporters and coaches is a long overdue measure. The FA’s Respect campaign is vital to help protect players and make them feel safe and able to enjoy playing without fear of abuse. It needs a united approach to make the ideas behind this campaign work. And parents need educating as part of this process.
