Steven Gerrard is March Premier League Player of the Month

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been named Premier League Player of the Month for March 2009. It is Gerrard’s fifth Premier League Player of the Month Award, and he now holds the record for Most Premier League Player of the Month awards won.

Liverpool won all their three games in March. They started off by beating Sunderland 2-0, and followed it up with a 4-1 demolition of Manchester United that left the title race wide open. They rounded off a great month by beating Aston Villa 5-0- a game in which Gerrard scored his first Premier League hat trick.

In the eleven goals that Liverpool scored in the Premiership in March, Gerrard scored four, with three coming from the spot.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez was also named Premier League Manager of the Month for March 2009.
