By Soccer Blog | Apr 27, 2009

Manchester United winger has won the PFA Player’s Player of the Year for the 2008-09 season. The Welsh veteran, who has made 799 appearances for Manchester United as on date, beat off competition from Manchester United team mates Nemanja Vidic, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rio Ferdinand, Edwin Van der Sar and Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard to win his first PFA Player of the Year award.

Giggs, who won the Young Player of the Year award in 1992 and 1993, said, “It’s arguably the best one to win, to be voted by your fellow players.”

Giggs is the third Welsh player to win the award, following in the footsteps of Liverpool legend Ian Rush and current Manchester City manager Mark Hughes.

Aston Villa’s Ashley Young won the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
