Stephen Carr signs new Birmingham City contract

By Soccer Blog | May 8, 2009

Veteran Birmingham City defender Stephen Carr has agreed a new deal. The right back came out of retirement in February 2009 and helped Blues in their return back to the top flight.

Blues boss Alex McLeish had this to say, “We will make an attempt to keep Lee Bowyer and everything has been agreed with Carr.Carr wants to stay and he’s done well. If he shows the hunger and quality he did when he came in here, obviously the quality is going to count in the Premier League.”

McLeish is also aiming to make Lee Bowyer’s loan move permanent. However Tunisian medio Mehdi Nafti’s contract will not be extended, and he will leave St.Andrews on June 30.

Kemy Augustien and Carlos Costly will return to their respective clubs later this month.
