Juventus sign Werder Bremen playmaker Diego

By Soccer Blog | May 27, 2009

Juventus have officially confirmed the capture of Brazilian playmaker Diego Ribas da Cunha from Werder Bremen. The Bianconeri have paid Werder a fee of 24.5m euros for the 24 year old, a figure that could rise to 27 million euros in the future.

Diego joined Werder Bremen from FC Porto in 2006 for €6m, and has been one of the standout performers for the Green Whites in the last couple of seasons. He missed this month’s UEFA Cup final against Shakhtar because he was suspended. He has scored 38 goals in 84 games for Werder so far.

Diego’s last appearance for Werder Bremen will be in the DFB Pokal final against Bayer Leverkusen on May 30. Bremen will also bid goodbye to their captain Frank Baumann, who is retiring after the game.
