€5m West Ham bid for Chamakh rejected

By Soccer Blog | Aug 14, 2009

French Ligue 1 holders Bordeaux have rejected a €5m offer from West Ham United for ace forward Marouane Chamakh. The Hammers had tabled a £4.3m (€5m) + a 50% on next sale clause bid for the Moroccan, but Bordeaux turned the offer down saying it was not acceptable.

Arsenal have also had a £6m bid for Chamakh turned down, but the Gunners have now ended their interest in the striker.

Fulham and Blackburn are also monitoring the situation of Chamakh, whose contract with Bordeaux ends in 2010.

L’Equipe also quoted Bordeaux chairman Jean Louis Triaud as saying that Chamakh was not interested in a move to Upton Park.

West Ham are expected to return with an improved bid for Chamakh in the next few days. With the Moroccan seemingly having no intention to extend his contract, Bordeaux might accept an offer to avoid the player leaving on a free next summer.

Well, West Ham have only one strike at the moment in Carlton Cole so they need more fire power up front. Sure they have Ashton, but since Zola’s already given his number 9 shirt to someone else I reckon he hasn’t got much longer.
