FIFA bans Chelsea for buying players for one year

By Soccer Blog | Sep 3, 2009

World football’s governing body FIFA has given Chelsea FC a one year transfer ban for the Blues’ alleged role in making youngster Gael Kakuta break his contract with French club Lens.

Chelsea will not be able to buy or even loan players in the next two transfer windows ( The January 2010 winter window, and the summer 2010 window), and if the Court of Arbitration upholds FIFA’s decision, Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has got a real headache on his hands with the core of his squad nearing their 30’s.

Chelsea will however not be prevented from selling players during this period.

Chelsea called the penalty “without precedent” and “totally disproportionate”

That could mean that Yuri Zhirkov, Ross Turnbull and Daniel Sturridge, who were signed this summer, will be the only new arrivals at Stamford Bridge till 2011.
