Yossi Benayoun scores the opener at Anfield to give his manager some respite. Lyon give the ball away in the Liverpool half, and thus starts a move that results in Fabio Aurelio crossing the ball. The ball hits Cris, misses a Liverpool player and falls for Benayoun, who slots home.

Kim Kallstrom whips in a corner, which Reina gets his finger tips to, but cannot take hold of. The ball falls to Toulalan, whose first time shot is saved by Reina. Ditto for Jean Makoun, but this time the rebound falls to young substitute Gonalons, who heads in from close range.
Liverpool 1-2 Olympique Lyonnais ( Cesar Delgado 90+1′)
Sidney Govou’s cross is slotted in at the far post by Cesar Delgado. Questions must be asked of the Liverpool defence for that one. OL boss Claude Puel cannot stop expressing his happiness on the sidelines, and why not- his side have picked up three points at a venue where they were expected to come out empty handed.
