Costa Rica 0-1 Uruguay- Lugano the hero

Uruguayan skipper Diego Lugano scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half to give La Celeste a 1-0 win in the first leg of their playoff tie against Costa Rica in San Jose. Costa Rica ended up with ten men after Randall Azofeifa received his marching orders in the 52nd minute of the game.

Costa Rica, who made it to both the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, now have an uphill task in front of them ahead of the return leg in Montevideo.

The Ticos finished fourth in the Hexagonal, while Uruguay finished fifth in South American qualifying.

Final score :- Costa Rica 0-1 Uruguay ( Diego Lugano 23′)
