Rangers fined by UEFA- 40,000 euros and one away game ban

Glasgow Rangers have been fined €40,000 by UEFA for their fans’ sectarian singing in their Europa League fixture against PSV Eindhoven. Rangers’ fans have also been banned from the club’s next away European game by UEFA.

This is the not the first time Rangers have been fined by UEFA in recent years. They received punishment in 2006 and 2007 for their fans’ behaviour against Villarreal and Osasuna and also in 2009, when they played Romanian side Unirea Urziceni. There were also riots in the Manchester city centre after Rangers’ UEFA Cup final in 2008 against Zenit St.Petersburg.

If there is another case of misbehaviour in the next three years, Rangers will be fined another €40,000 by UEFA and they will have to play their next home game in Europe behind closed doors.

Rangers will decide on whether or not to appeal against the UEFA fine after receiving the association’s detailed written decision in a week or so.

  1. Rangers Club management claim to be astounded at the charges levelled at them concerning sectarian chanting and singing yet if you go on Youtube and type in Billy Boys you will see not a small minority of Rangers fans singing these vile songs but thousands within the Ibrox stadium and at nearly every social venue where Rangers fans are present.The Rangers management continue to close their eyes and turn a deaf ear to this horrendous abuse towards the Celtic/Irish fans which has been going on for decades and yet claim they are being unfairly picked on.It’s all there on the internet,they have no defense,GUILTY AS CHARGED!
    Rangers official club anthem has the following lyrics;
    “Hello Hello, we are the Billy Boys,
    Hello Hello you’ll know us by our noise,
    We’re up to our knees in fenian blood,
    Surrender or you’ll die,
    For we are the Bridgeton Derry Boys.”
    The Billy Boys led by Billy Fullerton were a gang from Bridgeton in Glasgow that operated in the 1920s. They were infamous for killing Catholics for being Catholic. Fenian is a derogatory term for a Catholic. As you can see from the lyrics above, Rangers’ club anthem is about rejoicing in killing Catholics. It’s the most bigoted club anthem that I’ve ever heard.

    Another favourite song of the Rangers’ fans is entitled ‘Follow Follow’. It contains the lyrics “Dundee, Hamilton, f*** the Pope and the Vatican.”
    They also sing a song entitled ‘No Pope of Rome’. Some of the lyrics are as follows:
    “Oh no Pope of Rome, No Chapels to sadden my eyes, No nuns or no priests, Or no rosary beads, Every day is the twelth of july, f*** the pope.”

    Another favourite is “Are you watching fenian scum?”. They sing numerous songs which contain the word “fenian”. Rangers fans are also prone to Nazi salutes as well as singing a song which glories the fact that a Catholic named Robert Hamill was kicked to death by a gang of Loyalist thugs. They jumped up and down on his head. The song is entitled “Bouncy bouncy.”
    I rest my case,if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck ……………..
