Costa Rican soccer player Dennis Marshall has died in a car crash on Thursday night ( June 23, 2011) after a collision with a truck in Eastern San Jose. Defender Marshall had scored his first ever national goal just five days ago in the Gold Cup quarterfinal against Honduras, a match Costa Rica lost on penalties.

Marshall used to play for Danish club Aalborg. He was due to rejoin Aalborg on July 3.

Marshall will now be buried in Limon, Costa Rica. He apparently lost control of his Mazda while driving at a high speed.

Costa Rica’s Argentine coach Ricardo La Volpe expressed shock at Marshall’s death. “He was a young man with a bright future, well loved for his easy-going nature … We’re all shocked, it’s a blow,” , was La Volpe’s reaction.

Below is a photo of Marshall.
