One question only. If Spain is so good, why didn’t they crush Portugal?

@ Antides, they probably would have, had the match begun in extra time 😉

Seriously speaking, Spain playing Italy in the group stages helped, and their extra rest day played a factor too.

The Italians weren’t bad as some people have pointed out. Against the Germans they took their opportunities. Here they didn’t and paid for it.

@António, congratulations for the happy night in Mr. Vicente del Bosque’s Salamanca. You have a very good TEAM, but God is on your side too… And our mistakes added to His aid.

With all due respect to this beautiful Spanish team ! They absolutely deserved to win and they confirmed their supreme status. But this game was over at 2-0 ! I sincerely think that when you bring in an attacker like TORRES at the 83rd minute when your opponent is down two goals and one man with no subs left is kind of cruel ! Why not a defenseman instead ! They were out to humiliate this Italian team ! Preparing the stage for the next big tournament in Brazil. No Italian player shook TORRES hands.
This Spanish team was unbeatable no matter what ! They missed a golden opportunity to show supreme class in being magnanimous.

Can there be any argument now that Spain are indeed the best national team of all time? Brazil of 1970 & 1982, Holland of 1974, Argentina of 1986 & France of 1998 & 2000 were excellent, but the current Spanish side are the ultimate exponents of ‘Total Football’. Italy are a well-organised team, but had no answer to Spain’s array of midfielders & full-backs who played so high up that Andrea Pirlo was effectively put out of harm’s way. The inter-changing of roles was so effectively done that Italy were chasing shadows. The previously dour performances (except for the thrashing of the Irish) that ground out results, brought the Spaniards this far. However, they chose the final to unleash their offensive creativity on the poor Azurri. Spain has shown once again that they are the current masters, & will be there for some time to come, judging from the young talent waiting in the wings.

@CoCoRico, you are right. The club of my city was forced last season, due to a strike by most players, to play with 8! Do you think that the other team sent also 8 to the grass?… The fight for survival in the 1.st League “forced” them to play with 11. Final score? 0-4, just as here.

I just want to say that spain didn’t deserve to advance on the final of Euro, Portugal did! Portugal did everything to stop spain tikitaka mode and almost runned off the world champions of the tournament. Portugal was the only team in the tournament that did spain sweat real bad and to fear their “reserved” spot at the final.. it was an injustice but at the end spain deserved it cause italy didnt learn a shit with Portugal game against spain

Spain is country full with midfielder’s,complete striker’s,intellegent defenders full with confidence. At this moment spain is better then Brazil.

It’s over! Spain is the winner, but other countries made this sport richer. Football, this “primary” game, seems nothing to many. In fact, would Hyde Park be the same without that couple of squirrels playing on the lawn?

Spain thoroughly deserved to win Euro 2012 simply because they outclassed such formidable opponents as the uncompromising Italians, who outplayed Germany in the semi-finals. As for Portugal’s dour defensive display, adopted to force a draw with Spain, I am glad that the champions’ offensive creativity overcame such spoiling tactics. Whoever claims that the Spaniards do not deserve to lift the trophy are either out of touch with reality, or are suffering from ‘sour grapes’ syndrome. The latter most probably hail from either Italy or Portugal. Spain are technically light years ahead of teams such as England, Czech Republic, Greece and France, who made it into the last 8 of the competition.

CoCoRiCo… do you think if Italy was winning 2-0 and Spain was one man down, they would have just kindly passed the ball to the Spaniards? I think they would have been merciless, if they only had the chance. I don’t know what kind of soccer you watch, but games I’ve seen a few, and there’s no such thing as “oh they’re losing so badly, let’s be kind to them”. This wasn’t a vendetta, Spain was simply trying to do the best they could.

Also, this argument about Italy being 10 men in the last 30 minutes… Doesn’t people see that if that happened it was mainly because Italy’s coach wasn’t finding the formula to break Spain after the 2-0, hence he was forced to rush changes, and in that rush, the worst that could happen… happened, and Motta went out injured…? What happened to Motta was very unfortunate, but the circumstances that led to that were – as I see it – not based on luck.

Italy is not bad- they had decent chances- at least 5 that i can count. But there is a difference between getting chances and finishing it off (having the ball go into the net). Italy needs better finishers, not some punk rocker look alike who gets all cocky after a few success and then all moody after the loss- all is fair in love and game.

    great run from jordi alba
