Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has officially completed his switch to Manchester United, swapping London for the North West on a four year contract. Van Persie, Arsenal’ top scorer last season by a country mile, has reportedly transferred for £22m, with the potential to rise to £24m and will be contracted to United till June 2016.

Van Persie’s jersey number at Manchester United will be No.20

Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted with the transfer and likened his current striking options of Rooney, Van Persie, Welbeck and Javier Chicharito Hernandez to that of his 1999 squad ( Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer)

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted to French television that he would have preferred to sell Van Persie to a foreign club and United manager Sir Alex Ferguson himself said that the transfer would not have happened if Van Persie hadn’t told the Gunners of his personal desire to move to the Theatre of Dreams. RVP had a year to go on his Arsenal contract and had already revealed earlier this summer that he would not be penning a new deal.

Thomas Vermaelen is expected to take over as Arsenal captain from Van Persie, while the Gunners have already given Jack Wilshere the Dutchman’s No.10 jersey.
