These is how the draw for the group stages for the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League went about today at the Grimaldi Forum ( 30 August 2012) in Monaco. The UCL group stage 12/13 draw was held at 17.45 CET ( 16.45 BST). The 32 teams were divided into eight groups. Prior to the group stage draw, the teams had been divided into four pots of eight each. The defending champions for the 2012/13 Champions League season are Chelsea, who beat Bayern in last season’s final.
Group D is arguably the group of death, pitting champions of Spain, Holland, England and Germany together ( Real Madrid, Man City, Ajax and Dortmund)

Rules for the CL 12/13 group stage draw:- One team from each pot will be placed in each of the eight groups. Teams from the same country cannot draw each other in the group stages.
Pot One: Chelsea, Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Porto, AC Milan.
Pot Two: Valencia, Benfica, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit St Petersburg, Schalke, Manchester City, Braga, Dinamo Kiev.

What other rule was operating in the draw that saw Ajax placed in Group D without being drawn for it when there were only two teams in Groups E and G at that point?

Barcelona are the best… ok we havent won the Champions League against Chelsea and we havent won the Supercup against Madrid, but we have won it loads of times and we are the best team in the world, we will win the champions league this year. Bayern Munich and Man utd will play in the quater finals and bayern munich will win then bayern munich will play real madrid in the semi finals and real madrid will win…it will be a barcelona vs real madrid final and barcelona will win…simple as!!

My Ac Milan in a good an easy seeming group but could lead to the team quick elimination… Playing a stronger team will or could help the team building it strength.

I’m not very sure about this, but here is my understanding of why Ajax went automatically into group D or why group d was the only option for them.
At the time of drawing Ajax, only Juventus and Spartak Moscow were left.
Three groups left D, E and G
For the sake of television fixtures, groups A-D and E-H were grouped together. A-D play on one night, and E to H play on the other.
Zenit and Spartak were the only Russian teams in the competition and likewise for Juventus and Milan.
Because Zenit and Milan were already in Group C, Spartak and Juventus had to go into the opposite side of the draw i.e E and G. That left only one spot for Ajax, which was Group D.
I think City fans will appreciate playing better teams like Dortmund and Ajax rather than no names like the Danish and Belarusian teams

P.S Y’all say that Utd got put in the easy group but they couldn’t even qualify to the Round of 16 and they were put in the easy group last season, having lose to FC Basel.
