Virgil van Dijk knee injury vs Everton 2020 | Jordan Pickford challenge on VVD | No Card?

By Soccer Blog | Oct 17, 2020

This Pickford vs VVD incident saw the Liverpool defender have to be replaced by Joe Gomez after a strong tackle from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in their Merseyside derby today. The Pickford tackle on VVD happened early in the game, with VAR having to be called in to decide whether it was a penalty or not. The offside looked close, and had VVD not been ruled offside by VAR, the nature of Pickford’s foul on Van Dijk could’ve seen a spot kick being awarded to the Reds and potentially a red card to him.

One, this looked onside (DCL) and should’ve been a Liverpool penalty and two, Pickford’s got away with a terrible challenge here.

Very surprising that he wasn’t booked for this despite it being offside, but being a goalkeeper rather than an outfield player perhaps helped.
