If news in the press are to be believed, Roman and Chelsea are willing to make a mockery of all previous football transfer records to bring Barcelona forward Lionel Messi to Stamford Bridge.

Spanish club Valencia have appointed legendary Dutch defender Ronald Koeman as their new manager. Koeman succeeds Quique Flores, who was sacked by Los Che on October 29, following a string of bad performances. This is not Koeman’s first managerial stint in Spain- he served as Louis Van Gaal’s assistant at Barcelona between 1998 and 2000.

Players from African, Carribean and Pacific countries will no longer be considered as non EU by the Spanish La Liga. This is in accordance with the Cotonu accord, signed by the European Union and the ACP ( African, Carribean, Pacific States) in Benin in June 2000.

Spain has a rule which allows domestic clubs to sign only four players of non European nationality. Further, only three players can be named in the squad for a game. The move will allow for more South American talent to flow in, as Africans will no longer be considered as non European. Previously, if you had to free up a spot occupied by an African, you would have to wait till he acquired Spanish nationality.

Like many others, Thierry Henry moving to Barcelona was one of the biggest transfers of the summer to me. This post is a short one which details Henry’s debut as a Barcelona player. The game was against Dundee United at Tannadice in Scotland. Henry came as on a second half substitute for Cameroon international Samuel Etoo. His goal, which came from a  penalty kick rebound in the last seconds of the match, was the goal which divided both the sides as they headed out of the game. The last four games that Barcelona had played against Dundee  always came out  in favour of the Scottish side.
Speaking of debuts, David Beckham had the stadium packed for his debut, with friends and worshippers alike filling the 27,000 capacity stadium to the brim as the Galaxy faced off against Chelsea in a friendly . Becks came on as a second half substitute as the Galaxy lost 1-0. The sole goal of the game came from England skipper John Terry. There were lots of celebrities in attendance too.

I’ll be maintaining a list of the transfer activity of the major clubs. This post will keep track of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid . All figures are in Euros.

The three year domestic wait for the Los Merengues is finally over. Not only did they secure their first title since 2002/2003, they also stopped Barcelona from completing a hattrick of titles. By no means was this season a cakewalk, infact it extended to the last today, and Madrid made sure that the title was theirs about 10 minutes before the end of their game against Mallorca.
