Paul Scholes fined £8,000 by the FA for betting on fixtures

By Soccer Blog | Jun 20, 2019

Legendary Man Utd midfielder Paul Scholes has been fined £8,000 by the Football Association for placing bets on various games during his tenure as Salford City director. In a three and a half year period (August 2015 to January 2019), Scholes placed around 140 bets on the outcome of various games, including those involving United and Valencia (when Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt were working at Old Trafford and Gary Neville was at the Mestalla). He even bet on the outcome of some FA Cup games (none were however ones in which Salford were involved; they had already been knocked out)

Incorporating information from the likes of PaddyPower and Bet365, it was revealed that Scholes had bet a total of £26,159 and had made a profit of £5,831.

Scholes accepted the fine and apologised, but mentioned that his actions were not deliberate, and he was under the impression that the law only applied to games in which the gambler would be able to influence the outcome.
