Haaland, Salah or others? Who will be the most prolific this season?

The new Premier League season is just upon us and that means discussions are already underway on who will score the most goals in the upcoming league campaign.

Last season, Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah scored 29 goals to win his fourth Golden Boot award. However, will the Reds forward be able to retain his title? We look at who the four favourites are to win the Golden Boot this season.

Erling Haaland (10/11)

The pre-season favourite to win this season’s Golden Boot is Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. The Norwegian talisman has already netted 85 goals in his 97 Premier League appearances so far. However, he now heads into his 4th Premier League season having lost his Golden Boot after a season where he scored 21 goals, his lowest total when playing more than 20 games in a season. The 25-year-old will be desperate to get back to his ruthless best and the bookies reckon he’ll do just that, making him the 10/11 odds on favourite to score more goals than anyone else this season.

Erling

Haaland’s started the season on a positive note, netting a brace in Manchester City’s 4-0 opening round victory away at Wolves.

Alexander Isak (6/1)

There are three players tied in the betting after Haaland and the first of these players is Alexander Isak. At the time of writing, he’s still a Newcastle United player but rumours suggest he could be on his way to Liverpool. He didn’t feature in the Magpies’ season opener against Aston Villa, and it appeared that Eddie Howe’s side missed him sorely as they drew 0-0 in the Midlands.

Whatever shirt he’ll be wearing next season, he’ll be a goal threat as the Swede has scored at least 20 goals in both of the past two seasons. He’s getting better every year and this season he could get his hands on the Premier League Golden Boot for the very first time.

Viktor Gyokeres (6/1)

Arsenal summer signing Viktor Gyokeres is also priced at 6/1. He joins from Sporting Lisbon where he scored a remarkable 39 goals in 33 league appearances for the Portuguese side. Now he’s ready to play in the Premier League for the first time, & that’s despite him being at Brighton & Hove Albion in his earlier career. Arsenal fans will be hoping to see an instant goal threat from the second Swede on this list.

The last Arsenal player to win this award was Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang in 2018/19, and before him, Robin van Persie in 2012. Mohamed Salah (6/1)

The third and final player to be priced at 6/1 is current Golden Boot winner Mohamed Salah. The Liverpool player will be hoping to win the honour for the 5th time in his career. Last season was arguably his best in front of goal and he’ll be looking for more of the same this time around. Along with Haaland, he was the only one in this list to score on the opening weekend (4-2 v Bournemouth), and despite being the oldest in this list, shows no signs of slowing down.
