Bloemfontein Celtic win Macufe Cup

By Soccer Blog | Oct 13, 2008

Bloemfontein Celtic have won the Macufe Cup at Vodacom Park after beating Free State Stars 1-0 in the final. The only goal of the game came from Patrick Maloase, who converted a late penalty after being brought down by Sanele Mbuso.

Ea Lla Koto gave a good account of themselves in the game, and indeed, things could have been different had Stars been given an early penalty when Paulus Masehe’s shot deflected off the arms of Thabo Nthethe.

In the first semifinal, Celtic had beaten visiting Lesotho side Matlama United 3-0 ( Petrus Mahlatsi, Mark Mayambela and Ditheko Mototo scoring), while Free Stars beat Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties after the game finished 2-2 after regular time. ( Scorers in normal time- Manqoba Ngwenya and Katlego Mphela- Sundowns, Sthembiso Ngcobo and Saitjheni Tsotetsi -Stars.)
