After a gap of a year (the 2014 edition was not held owing to an overcrowded schedule for Real with their Spanish and European Super Cup commitments), the Trofeu Bernabeu returns to Spain, with Real Madrid taking on Galatasaray in what will be the 36th edition of the tournament. The game will serve as Real’s final friendly fixture and a last chance for Rafa Benitez to fine tune preparations ahead of their league opener against Sporting.
Galatasaray will not be taking any fee for playing this game, with Real only bearing their travel and accomodation expenses. Gala also played in this fixture back in 2011, with Millonarios and Al-Sadd being Real’s opponents in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Benitez’s side drew blanks in their last friendly on Sunday against Valerenga in Norway as those on the fringes of the first team fluffed their lines.
Spanish side CD Guijuelo, whose kit launches would otherwise go unnoticed, have decided to have a meat themed away jersey for the new season. Guijuelo are based in Salamanca, which along with Seville, Cordoba and other provinces, are famous for their consumption of Iberian ham (Jamon Iberico in Spain)
