AC Milan’s 16 year old goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma gets first clean sheet, keeps Diego Lopez on bench

AC Milan debuted a 16 year old goalkeeper against Sassuolo over the weekend, and last night in the Rossoneri’s midweek league outing against Chievo Verona, the youngster kept a clean sheet, the first of his senior club career. More interesting is the fact that the teenager, named Gianluigi Donnarumma (born in 1999) is keeping former Real Madrid No.1 Diego Lopez on the bench at the San Siro!

Donnarumma is the club’s second youngest debutant and in a major show of confidence in him, coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has indicated that he will start against Lazio this weekend, in what is sure to be a big test for the 16 year old at the Olimpico.

  1. That is unbelievable that this 16 year old boy kept a clean sheet on his debut game for AC Milan. He is so young and to have accomplished this feat at this age is incredible. However there will be a lot of pressure one him for the next game. He will need to perform well to show that he can handle this level of play. I think he has a bright future with this club and will move on do to great things.
