Controversial Harry Kane penalty vs Denmark 2021 VAR call | Maehle Jensen foul on Sterling?

This Kane penalty vs Denmark was a very controversial call, with referee Danny Makkelie pointing to the spot after adjudging that Raheem Sterling had been fouled in the area. VAR took a look at the Maehle & Jensen vs Sterling incident and didn’t change the ref’s decision. Kasper Schmeichel saved the original penalty, adding to the long list of missed penalties at this tournament, but Kane scored from the rebound.

  1. Regardless of if it was a foul or not ref should have instantly blown the whistle to stop play when he noticed there was a second ball on the pitch. Why VAR didn’t pick that up either is just as much a mystery

  2. Typical, another trash decision in favor of “the favored” team. That’s the kind of crap that just ruins the game and makes the obvious conclusion all but irrefutable that the fix was in.

  3. Larry, as Kane said in his interview there were other CLEAR penalties that were due earlier that weren’t given but should’ve. Although I agree the one that counted was dodgy at best, the one earlier should’ve been 100%.

FIFA rules are clear: If an extra ball, other object or animal enters the field of play during the match, the referee must stop the match only if it interferes with play. Play must be
restarted by a dropped ball from the position of the match ball when play
was stopped, unless play was stopped inside the goal area, in which case the
referee drops the ball on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point
nearest to where the ball was located when play was stopped.
If an extra ball, other object or animal enters the field of play during the match
without interfering with play, the referee must have it removed at the earliest
    possible opportunity.

  5. the extra time penalty should not have been awarded, minimal contact, two balls etc
    but

    – kane was denied a penalty in 2nd half
    – the danish goal game from a free kick that should not have been awarded
    – Eng made the great majority of the game’s scoring chances ( you attack more, more chance of getting lucky)

after the ‘hand of god ‘ and the luckless semi final defeats in 1990 and 1996 , Eng due a break
