South African midfielder Steven Pienaar was arrested by the Merseyside police on Sundayfor allegedly assaulting a woman in the Sefton Park area of Liverpool. It has been reported that Pienaar voluntarily turned himself in, and was later released on bail pending police investigation. According to the Liverpool Daily Echo, police were called to his flat early on Sunday morning, around 6 am. The police have not charged him officially, but the Everton medio will have to visit the police station at least one more time next month.
Pienaar has not played for Everton recently, with a broken toe keeping him out of action. He is contracted to the Toffees till 2011, having signed for them for a fee of 2 million pounds in April 2008 after a successful loan spell.
