Sunderland manager Paolo di Canio was booed at St.James Park when he took the field as part of the Newcastle Legends vs AC Milan Glorie fixture. The game was a testimonial for long serving Magpies keeper Steve Harper, and Di Canio played as a Milan player. He blew kisses to the crowd after being booed.

The game eventually ended in a 0-0 draw, with AC Milan Glorie winning 2-1 on penalties. Harper himself missed a spot kick in the shootout.
