Shevchenko returns to Milan

A little over two years after he joined Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea for £30m, Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko has returned to Italy after Chelsea and AC Milan agreed terms. Sheva failed to live up to his reputation at Stamford Bridge and like Argentine Hernan Crespo, opted for a return back to the Serie A. He cemented his place in history as one of the world’s top marksmen when he was at the San Siro, scoring 127 goals in 208 games for the Rossoneri.

The details of the move were not available, but it brings to an end another of this summer’s long drawn transfer sagas. Chelsea also allegedly offered him to Roma, and talks nearly broke down between Milan and the Blues, but at the end of the day, Chelsea wanted Shevchenko to go, and Milan were only too keen to have him back. Milan were originally keen on a loan spell, with an option to buy, but Chelsea were looking to sell him outright.

Shevchenko scored only nine goals in his two seasons at Chelsea- four in the 2006/07 season and five in the 2007/08 one.

Shevchenko said that he felt as if he had won a Champions League

“For me, it’s as if I’ve won a Champions League. There were some complications, but now that everything has been resolved I am truly happy.”
