  1. Great comeback from Iran in extra time. Penalties are a lottery, but without that Pooladi red card, it might not have got to penalties at all.

  2. this referee did intentionally whatever he could to make a loser from the real winner of the game. Williams should be executed.

  3. Referee’s decicision for sending off pooladi was completely wrong.
His decision affected the final result
We are waiting for AFC explanation/evaluation of referee team.

  4. I watched the match completely, it was not iraq right to win,
iran was fighting with 10 player about 80 minutes, iran was very good

  5. But for the referee, Iran would have walked over Iraq with their eyes shut. Iraq and no Arab countries can hold a candle to Iran. 10 people had to take on Iraq plus the stupid referee.

Good luck with Iraq, these so-called winners.

  6. Iraq is a good team but do not deserve to win this game. Iran was clearly the better team and even with 10 men they played so great and should have won the game. The Australian referee’s red card decision was flat out wrong as the goalie was the one who pushed the Iranian player. You can’t put your hand on another player/push a player like the goalie did and not get a card. The red card was absolutely mind bugling and he should not be allowed to ref again. Aussie referee made sure Iran does not make it to the semi so Australia has a better chance to win. FIFA and the Asian federation should be ashamed of themselves assigning a hostile ref to this game. Best team in Asia is out. Everyone else is playing for second place as long as I am concerned.

  7. this was no asian cup, It was the Arab cup, AFC is ran by UAE , what a corrupt bunch of people, now they are ruining the beautiful game.. AFC is backwards in every thing it does.

why are Aussies are Asia not Israel? Aussies need to go away from asia… Bring back Israel, if arabs do not like it they can play with their african brothers .

Iran did not play smart the first 20 Mins, they know the world is against them so why give the referee an excuse with challenging the Goal keeper.. Just Stupid.. The Iraqi coach said he knew how bad the ref was from his days coaching Qatar..

  8. The referee was disgusting! It seems he was bribed as there was no fairness in his actions! Red card to Iranian player for no reason? The player did nothing wrong to get the card? His action changed the game and a winner team came loser!
When Iraqi players make a foul in the start of the game they would get away with it many times. On the other hand Iranian player for the smallest contact would get a yellow card! It was at the stage that Iranian players would scare to play and the Iraq’s player would hit the Iranian player and lough about it as they knew referee is on their side, it was simply disgusting and outrages!
Near the end of the game when he came to himself he showed few yellow card to Iraqi team but that is too late!
This is an insult to the game of Football and fairness and an insult to Australian with such a corrupt referee, his license must be cancelled as a referee as he is nothing but a cheap, dirty corrupt paradise and an insult to a fair game and Australian Nation.

  9. This is not the first time Iran looses to Iraq and it will not be the last time! they are use to it by now
Don’t be a sore looser! Iraq doesn’t play any home games or have the home advantage, unlike Iran. Maybe if the Iranian player wasn’t playing so rough, his team wouldn’t have scored. This is the price you pay for playing rough! you will get over this loss

  10. Ben Williams is known for his psychotic episodes. He also hates team Melli with passion. 2 disallowed goals and yellow cards to key players in the group game of Iran. He finished what he was paid to do in Iran v Iraq game. Iraq played well and were worthy apponents. However, Iran would have scored more goals and the game would have never gone to extra time. Team Melli made all Iranians very proud. They fought like Lions and against all odds turned match around twice. Ben Williams will never be sacked because he did exactly what FIFA had hired him to do. Make sure Iran does not face Australia. Iran clearly is the best team in Asia and is ranked number 1. Australia should be ashamed for being such bad hosts. Iran will pay you back you skippy kangaroos. Team Melli will come back so strong that no referee in the world can stop them from winning. I am ashamed of being an Aussie by his is sport and Iran deseved to be treated equally. All the best to Iraqi team I hope they win the cup.

  11. Iraq beat Iran with 12 players (11 players + referee) against 10 Iranian heroes. This is very embarrassing for Asian cup to choose such a referee for the quarter final game. Mr Ben Williams has history of misjudgement in A-Leage and he is still appointed for judging such an important game. So embarrassing for Asian football. His license as referee must be cancelled.

  12. We all know Iran was cheated by the Australian referee. For those who said Iraq win fairly I have this ,are you sure you were watching the same game ? and beside that four days before Asian games started Iraq lost to Iran like Ten other game before that when Iraq lost to Iran. Williams the ref wanted to open the way by cheating for Australia to win the asian cup. Finally, the reason Asian teams do a bad job in World Cup is because Asian soccer is been running by people who do not know how to make Asian soccer better. We don’t need Australian cheater in Asia.

  13. The referee was unjust. Did he sleep that night? If iran defender not off. Iran won easily. It is for several times iran hurts by referee.

  14. It was a great game. i think penalty kicks is like a coin flip. Either team could have won this.
I give Iraq a lot of credit for keep on having a great team with everything the country goes through.
With all the training and money Iran put to their program they should have won this even with 9 players.
especially that all they had to do is hold on to their 1-0 advantage.

  15. Finally, a fair judge. Someone’s got to press the line of foul plays, which is exactly what Williams did, It’s so boring watching football when they act however they want without any consequences. Williams showed them that there is no mercy given for the ones who play foul, which is what Iran did. Iraq won over Iran before, and they will most likely run over them again and again.

  16. Historically, Iran has demolished Iraq and the Arabs. All these Arabs can claim what they want. The Australian commentators, who were unbiased, said Williams made horrible decisions and turned the match in Iraq’s favor.

  17. Oh stop you Irani babies, get over it, you lost to the better team. Blaming the ref is such an old way to justify the loss. He got a second yellow card for dangerous act on the keeper. He deserved to be sent off. And the pen crystal clear so just stop whining and get over it. You should give credit to the Iraqi team reaching the semifinal in spite of they dont even have functioning football league.

  18. Iraq’s quarter-final win thrown into question after Iran claims ineligible player

Sources have told TWG that the Iranian Football Federation has made a formal complaint to FIFA concerning the eligibility of Iraq midfielder Alaa Abdul Zahra.

The complaint stems from an alleged doping violating during the time Abdul Zahra spent last year playing with Iranian club side Tractor Sazi.

An AFC spokesperson confirmed to TWG that it is aware of the case and is awaiting further information from FIFA.

Iraq beat Iran on penalties after a 3-3 draw in Canberra on Friday to earn the right to face Korea Republic in the semi-finals in Sydney on Monday.

It’s understood that the Iranian side has delayed its exit from Australia awaiting a response from the world governing body, which is expected on Saturday evening.

Iran’s National Anti-Doping Agency deputy Ramin Tabatabaei told news agency Tasnim that Abdul Zahra failed a drug test when he was playing in the country.

“I informed Mr Sajjadi (vice-president of Professional and Athletic Sports Development) when we understood Team Melli would play Iraq in the quarter-final,” Tabatabaei said.

  19. Iraq is the better time the last two iranian goals were fouls . Iranian player deserved the yellow and the red card and the penalty they were playing violently .

  20. @ Maah
I am really pissed now. Shame on Iran really. They can’t take a defeat like men. This guy played in Iran league so they will try to find whatever way to reach semi.
I hope all the Iraqi players can see this and never play in that league.
What a pussy move. and I wanted to give Iran the benefit of the dought in my last comment.

  21. Iraq played violantely…Iran deserved the win
referee was bogus..who let this dude referee ? what a shame
Iraq was equal to iran with 10 man vs 11 ..otherwise iran wouldve sweeped them apart with 11 men

they got lucky…so good luck to them..and i think iran should just let go now …theyll bounce back again!

  22. Benjamin Williams, The only way a referee would judge wrongfully is getting some kind of favors either financially or politically. Whatever the reason is I hope it was worth to SELL YOURSELF and ruined your reputation in the whole world. SHAME on you, Do you call yourself a HUMAN ???????????

  23. Iran played good but ugly, hence the red card. Why the filming? This is what ruins the sport, and you can clearly see how the douchebag Pooladi try to make it look like he was pushed by Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk used all their forces combined to push him away. So many butthurt people who can’t accept a defeat which they brought upon their own.

  24. The ref was a joke. I agree, Pooladi made a lot of the push but if he’s going to book him for simulation he should have booked several Iraqi players for the same thing – example, on the 18th minute Younis Mahmoud (serial grass-roller, just look on youtube for a video vs c ronaldo) went down clutching his face trying to get Nekounam sent off for an elbow when replays clearly show he didn’t even touch him.

It’s double standards because he held a grudge. The first yellow wasn’t even a worthy yellow card. He had multiple opportunities to book Iraqi players for similar innocuous challenges and didn’t. Just criminal refereeing which is obviously condoned by the AFC – the fact that they aren’t commenting on it speaks volumes. He should never have been appointed as ref in this match but it’s just another game adding to a long list of AFC bungles against Iran. There is total bias in this corrupt federation controlled by Arabs with an agenda against Iranian football.

  25. Why are people so incredulous at the Red Card? he wasn’t given red for the dive. he was given a red for sticking his foot into the chest of the keeper for no reason whatsoever. It is the reason the keeper jumped up and put his hands on him. Maybe (MAYBE!) you give the keeper a yellow but the Iranian player absolutely should have gotten a red. it was a dirty move.

  26. Sorry that Iran should win listen everybody and have IT clear for you, Non ofthe iraqi players play for a good team like rubin kazan or Portugal team so that game should be nothing to say and dont blame At the referee he was good and IT was clear red card .IRAQI FOR EVER AND DONT BE JEOULOs for iraqi TEAM

  27. The referee made several terrible mistakes to change the result of the game to Iraqi’s favourite. This kind of referring is a great shame for AFC which seem to be corrupted by Australian and Arab authorities in order to kick Iran out of the competition. Shame on you AFC and your corrupted organization……

  28. Iran did not deserve the red card and it was an accident that he went into the Iraqi goal keepers chest. It was not fair and if you don’t play fair you don’t have the privilege to win and they didn’t! So stop saying they deserved the red card because put you position in Iran and if that happened to you would you be saying it was a fair move for a red card to be given like this?! NO! so stop lying to your selfs because IRAN was currently ranked 1st in Asia and have beaten iraq many times in my opinion Iran is already 1st. Iraq couldn’t score a goal with UAE with 10 people but we could against them, now tell me who’s stonger?!
