This Martial vs Lamela incident was a very controversial one, with United’s Anthony Martial sent off for hitting Erik Lamela in the face during their league game earlier today. Lamela first elbows Martial in the throat, following which the latter reacts by effectively slapping him on the face. Lamela goes down and referee Anthony Taylor sends Martial off. A very, very controversial decision- many were of the opinion that both players should’ve been sent off, or both should’ve got yellow cards

Bizarre that VAR chose not to interfere here.
If anything, Lamela makes harder contact here. The only mistake that Martial has made here is not going down to the floor like Lamela has.
The referee =A joke by not using VAR in this heated situation…this decision turned to be crucial for the game…
This is so wrong. Lamela should be banned for an extended period. This is the type of ‘acceptable’ behaviour that gives football a very bad name.

I hope Lamela is never called on to protect his boyfriend because a gust of wind would blow him over.
What’s the chance that the FA will act to protect the integrity of the game? FA should review Lamela’s elbow to Martial. Clearly, it was missed by the match referee, maybe even by the VAR referee too. Where the force of Lamela’s elbow to Martial was greater than Martial’s strike to Lamela, there should be some punishment to Lamela or FA will be encouraging players to conduct themselves in ways that are contrary to the principles of Respect and Fair Play.
Salty Man U fans it seems here… Lamela got a yellow card for a elbow “reckless elbow”, Martial deservedly got a red “strikes an opponent or any other person on the head or face with the hand or arm”… that’s the rules and applies correctly. There will be no review. Level of force is irrelevant – but he hit me harder ref doesn’t make a difference.
