This Diego Costa red card v Barcelona was a pivotal moment in Atleti’s clash against the Blaugrana on 6 April, 2019. With the game tied at 0-0, Striker Costa was sent off in the 28th minute for insulting and abusing referee Jesus Gil Manzano. Barcelona went on to win the game 2-0. Manzano wrote in his referee report after the game that Costa had used abusive language towards his (Manzano’s) mother and added that he had grabbed him by the arm to prevent him from showing yellows to his Atleti team mates.
